How did you start playing pool?

First played as a kid by myself in the basement on a table my dad brought home. Played off and on for several years with only self-taught methods. For the last few years, I've been seriously studying the game, and trying to improve.
Do you have any advice for beginners?

Decide on your committment level first, then prioritize your game with other areas of your life accordingly. To attain a high skill level in billiards, it takes a lot of time and discipline. Set attainable goals to stay motivated.
